Salvador Dali Museum

  Figueres

In 2014  we visited France but also took a trip over the border into Spain to visit Figueres which is where the  collection of Salvador Dali art is housed. I loved it , my husband wasn't that keen as although we got there fairly early it meant an hours queuing outside in the already hot sunshine to get in.! The tickets allowed us to view the main part of the museum as well as the jewellery collection which was absolutely spectacular. This exhibition drew people of all ages, as the collection is so eclectic there is something for everyone . I took photo's but too many to add so will, just have a few to show.

Inside the courtyard of the museum

The head below ws a very clever 3D art form . You had to climb up a ladder to be able to view it properly. When you were stood a floor level you could view all the pieces separately and didn't seem to make any sense , it was when you viewed from above you could see how clever the arrangement was .

The ceiling in one of the rooms at the museum , quite extraordinary the breath of this mans art.

The outside of the building quite unique in its design, you certainly knew you were at the right place when you spotted this . Below a close up of the very different  decoration of the building. I am sure people have their own names for it !

Above some of the fabulous jewellary that Dali designed, with  absolutely amazing diamonds and other jems . Some worn by famous people of the day.

The museum in Figueres us is so distinctive that you can't miss it . A lovely colour of  pink, it looks like it has lumps of dog poo over it, for a want of a better expression, huge eggs sat on the top of the roof along with models . Nothing is what it seems in this amazing building there is so much to see and something for most ages other than the really young I would suggest.

The building which houses the museum was once a cinema, but was burnt down during the Spanish Civil War but Dali thought  this would make an ideal place to house his collection. When you go into the building the courtyard is when the original stalls would have been for the cinema. Above here are all kinds of displays and Oscar type models.
