My images for the Exhibition,
Just hit on the image below and it will come up in a larger format .
The period of time when our world stood still for us, days into weeks and then into months
Very eerie feel, everyone standing 2 metres apart waiting to enter the bank , chemist and food shop and no one talking
Pattern off the internet , make your own
Only 1 in at a time . The pharmacists came out and took your name and all behind you and when your medicines were ready called your name out to collect them
Frozen assets in more than one sense of the word . Nearly all online shopping as no shops other than the very basic few open .
More people waiting very patiently in line to enter the shops , good thing the weather was sunny
No phones left on here, stark warning the shop was empty. In the reflection of the doors you can see a Tui store, but will they be selling any holidays this year
Empty almost of all vehicles. Normally would be busy of a morning. Only dog walkers here now
Deserted, only necessary journeys otherwise Stay at Home
The empty bus station normally plenty of people and buses here, now almost deserted.
Empty shelves hardly a toilet roll to be had, limits of no more than 3 items per customer. Other times there were none at all
Normally a busy square, but hardly a person to be seen. A lifeline for people living in town who can't get to the main supermarkets outside town
After the snow comes the sun and a tree frozen with ice. This image was entered into a Weather competition , and although it didn't win it was selected as the cover for the RMS magazine in February 2020. It will also feature in a book to celebrate their 170th Anniversary , which will now be produced next year .
Frozen hearts bleeding with all that has befallen us
Self isolating people in ice all frozen in time and space . When will this end .
New baby and self isolating Grandma who can't even give her a cuddle. The reality for families of the nightmare this pandemic has brought
The bluebells and blossom came and went and some people never made it into the warm Spring air
ICM image of the reed beds with the lovely light green of Spring leaves behind them
The flowers of Spring missed by so many this year came and gone before you knew it.
All countries in lockdown all face money problems in the future
Offer of hope and peace to the soul
No Church Services, no Weddings, no Christenings and significantly no Funerals .All to stay closed
Light in the dark. In memory of those who have lost their lives to Covid 19
9.30am on a Saturday morning deserted roads only 3 cars including mine
Carparks and toilets closed to discourage people from coming here. Mostly the dog walkers
The sun after the storm and an empty beach
Chose a word , how has this pandemic affected you ?
Goodrington, when will the beach huts be open to use, time is slipping by
One way in and one way out
The Invisible Killer Covid19
Sunrise over Torbay, what ever is thrown at us, nature keeps going, day in day out whether we are here or not.
Easter Day 2019 just as the sun rises over Torbay. This images was featured in the July 2019 edition of Devon Life
As day follows night in the cycle of life the moon in one of its phases
Past Flinders Station in Melbourne a normally busy road almost deserted
A place which at this time of year would be busy with locals and tourists as a main ferry and cruise port
Alstadt Old town Zurich , just after movement restrictions had been lifted a little but still few people around
Beautiful day in April and an empty beach whereas normally the beach would be busy with people
The next generation, I wonder when she will be at the beach next
A solitary person and their dog . Torquay looks almost near enough to touch, but might as well be a million miles away . Stay home no unnecessary journeys
Huddled together a family of hearts against the wider world and the virus
The last journey
A mark of respect to the recently deceased. It slows the hearse and allows for any mourners to catch up, so they all arrive at the funeral together. However funerals have allowed the bare minimum of people to attend during the pandemic
The short way home
Needs no words , where we finally call home
Hoping for a better outcome very soon and that there is some hope for the future
The Matterhorn Switzerland in summer. We have all had plenty of mountains to climb in the last 3 months , its been hard going and likely to be even more challenging to return to some semblance of normality in the coming months with uncertainty about work and future for some.
My beautiful granddaughter who willingly sat for my to take photo's of her for my portraiture module without complaint . Included here as she should have been coming to stay with us for 2 months just as lockdown started . Flight was booked but unable to come .
Fresh from the sea off Paignton and bought as they were landed at the harbour .
Included as another granddaughter who never lets anyone take a photo of her , but on this occasion asked me to do so . Can't wait to see her again its a long time since last January .
A beautiful spot in the South Hams and a very quiet day when I visited . Included as I think everyone will have had time to reflect on their life and how the pandemic has affected them and their families
Darling Harbour Sydney, illustrating how small our world is. The virus in Australia one day UK the next.
A pinhole camera view of the back of SDC which would have been my home for the last 2 years scholastically speaking ,with the University centre on the RHS, but not the new Hi Tech Centre which we had to vacate with speed in March due to the Covid 19
I think the world has gone mad! Locked away in ice for the last 3 months and too much time on our hands, roll on our release.
The ice is starting to melt , soon we will all be venturing out again as long as a second wave of the virus doesn't hit. Roll on that day !
Images I won't be using
I have many more images other than the ones have shown here, but at some point you have to draw an line and say enough. Also I think possibly they wouldn't have added any more to what I wanted to say or show of the snapshot of the 1st few weeks in lockdown. You wonder how other countries have coped through the Pandemic. Singapore has a large Chinese community , many who may have travelled by to China for New Year . One can only but wonder.
Maybe never a truer word written at the moment, you need something to lighten the mood. A bit of humour can go along way !
A bit of macro photography as well as an unexpected guest in the clock
Night time view of a busy city
Beautiful flower
Social distancing protecting the cutomers
Swans and cygnets at Goodrington
Closed like so many other places
A train and few if any passengers
We might all be off the rails before lockdown finishes
A very busy street as part of the one way system in Paignton. Empty almost unheard of or seen
A few people waiting to go into Santander Victoria St
Everyone turned to drink, the shelves were almost empty of wine !
Canada Geese and the goslings , they started with 8 but I think they possibly lost them all
No queues , but a barrier system them for people with trolleys andthose who just needed a quick shop
There has been a lot of cooking going on over lockdown. That said we always bake our own
An empty port they have lost all of their business with the Ferries and cruise liners. Who knows what the 2nd part of the year will bring. These places rely on the boat for business and keeping the economy buoyant
'With the above images it now gives me an idea or how I want my exhibition to look and with a statement for each image you get and understanding of what I was looking for when I took the shot. I have been about nearly everyday to take the dogs for a walk and have taken my camera each time. I wanted at least one or two shots to keep just as a record of what has gone on around us this Spring. The limitations of how far you could travel by car has certainly limited me to a 2 mile radius from home and as yet have not been to Torquay although the restrictions here have lifted in the last week or so you can travel further, so to some degree what I have taken has been a little limited . That said I have many more images still unused than I am showing here.
To make the frozen images I used what ever I could find at home for moulds. These consisted of a heart shaped silicone tray to use for making chocolates, Chinese take away boxes empty rice cracker trays and a big silicon cooking tray Really anything I though might be good and work
My biggest problem was working out once the ice was frozen how to stop it moving around and also trying to get the lighting correct as I wanted light to shine through the ice so that you could see the figures inside as well as the bubbles inside the blocks so I could get a glow. from the ice. Most of the ice photography has been done at night time in my kitchen, using black fabric behind the images to give a plain background so that nothing would be deflect from the shot.
Feedback
Due to the fact that I have too many images for the Art Pandemic website , I have them here so that you can look at them in a chronological order as I wanted them to be viewed.
As this now my final module and exhibition for my degree I need feed back from yourselves to help me evaluate my work.
I would be grateful if you could take a couple of minutes to answer a couple of simple questions and then return your replies to my email which is attached to the email I sent you.
Thanking you in anticipation of you help
